It’s more difficult to describe Lazialita than to feel Lazialita.
It is the Lazialita what makes someone a Laziale, who is different from a supporter; the supporter becomes himself a Laziale once he takes in all the good that is in the Lazio’s ideals.
The first lecture about Lazialita was given by those who founded the Societa Podistica Lazio, the day 9th January 1900. Inspired by the colors of Greece, the first nation to organize, in Athens, the first modern Olympic Games, they choose that name for the newborn club.
Why Lazio? Roma was there, the beautiful city where they lived, the capital city, whose culture had been first the birth-place of the modern civilization, then its mother.
Yet, the name Lazio wins. And this is the right choice indeed, since it was the Lazio (Latium) people those who welcomed Enea, and those who, after establishing their dominion over the region, had in the twins Romolo and Remo the founders of the eternal city. The future of Rome, and the entire world, was indeed shaped by Lazio.
No conformism, no honors to things or people, only the cult for the great history of the region Lazio.
It was immediately clear that the founders cared about all the sport disciplines: after running, swimming became the most important sport; then, in the very first years of Lazio, also rowing, then football, water polo, excursionist. Each discipline had its own section president, but they were all gathered under the name Lazio. With the years passing by Lazio kept following this structure, even when, very soon, football become the prominent activity.
At that time it was not yet called Lazialita but it was already deep in the minds and hearts of all the Lazio people, from Luigi Bigiarelli to Fortunato Ballerini, from Giorgio Vaccaro to Olindo Bitetti, from Eugenio Gualdi to Remo Zenobi, and many others.
It now starts to be clear what Lazialita was and is about. It’s about loving the biancoceleste colors, as a symbol of purity; loving sports for all the good they can give to young people; the desire to win, or better to excel, always showing great respect for the opponent. The defeat is part of any sport, and part of life. There is no victory that has not been preceded by a defeat. To love sport as a mean to shape the body and the mind, the push we need in life to overcome the difficulties we meet every day. To respect the opponents so much to become their friends.
The Lazialita leads the Laziale to love not only the favorite discipline, but also the other sports within the Mother Lazio, to appreciate the results that Italian Sport can reach, even outside our biancocelesti walls.
Lazialita is elegance and distinction that are not exterior, it’s something that we feel deep in us, and that makes us proud. The music is a great message that reaches our hearts, our mind, and makes us sensitive, lifting us towards the sky. In the same way, the Lazialita is a message of lifestyle, affecting our daily behavior.
And with this wish I conclude: let’s always show our Lazialita. In the sport fields, and in life.
